• Last movie: High School Musical! All classics all the time, here. Very excited to join the same group of friends from high school + a friend’s friend from college who also a delight and was an essential addition to the viewing party because unlike the rest of us lunatics she had not seen this movie since the late 2000s and does not have half the lines memorized / woven into a complex patchwork of inside jokes. Her face watching Zac Efron’s one moment of actual singing in the movie was GOLD. Also we are watching hsm2 tonight, I’m stoked!!!
  
  
• Currently watching: uh, on my own? I’ve watched two episodes of Entourage for some reason??? Oh I also watched like five episodes of the West Wing last month? Maybe I’ll go back to those but possibly/probably never. Friends from home and I have been watching like two episodes of Schitt’s Creek a week since we ran out of Bold Type episodes in mid July. Bec and I might someday go back to watching the og Tales of the City. Oh also more of Derry Girls! I’ve only seen the first season!! OH LOL also we have plans to return to Emily in Paris. Oh and the other day I watched like twenty minutes of Le jeu which was… Weird. Also funny seeing the fancy version of the kind of apartment I lived in at the beginning of this year.
  
  
• Currently reading: I am sitting next to my very overdue copy of Disappearing Earth which I read a chapter of in… October?? and then literally lost for months and then found between the wall and the chair I’m sitting on at the beginning of this month. Oh also this summer I got like 60 or 70 pages into Lucy Jane Bledsoe’s A Thin Bright Line, which I can see from here, and read like 40? pages of Rebecca Kauffman’s The Gunners, which is in the same stack. Those are maybe more currently abandoned books than currently reading books. In the past two weeks I read two books which is INSANE: On Swift Horses, which I should maybe just reread??? I also want to write my friend in SD who reads Western type books an email about it (he last emailed me and it included this PERFECT line about his time working for the park service this year: “What else? Not so much interesting, other than an often funny lesbian quadrangle that developed amongst some interns and archaeologists in the compound we lived in“), and When Katie Met Cassidy, which… lol. The thing I don’t get about romance novels is how I’m supposed to care about characters if they don’t exist outside of a romance plot. I can do it with movies! But I, like… books do not really work that way for me, I dunno.
  
  
• Currently craving: SUNSHINE (and recently CHIPS which I just bought a ton of earlier today in my first trip to Duane Reade in a month. Highlights included the cashier wishing me a happy new year, me wishing the same to her and then her responding “I don’t know what we’re celebrating.” (I said that is the question AND the reason for all the chips.))

• random: jenny, i’m so glad you’re reading library books! oh, did you know nypl is doing an elaborate book recommendation/check out bundle thing now: https://www.nypl.org/shelf-help I was looking at it because i was kind of extremely into shannon pufahl’s on swift horses which is kind of western which i didn’t know i liked??? but i also i liked that it was western-ish but also very concerned with women and queerness in addition to the 1950s in the west and the development of the interstate and etc etc. also part of it’s set in baja california and i talked to a guy i studied abroad with (!) for the first time in years bc one of the towns it references is where his family’s from, which was exciting, aaand if he reads it and likes it i feel like i would be able to really whole heartedly recommend it. but also it’s the sixth non-for-work book i’ve read since march and the second adult novel, sooo… that is kind of a de facto endorsement
